Dextrose (Corn Sugar) – The Perfect Priming Sugar for Bottle-Conditioned Beer
Dextrose, also known as corn sugar, is a staple ingredient for homebrewers looking to achieve the perfect level of carbonation in their bottle-conditioned beer. When added at bottling, it provides fermentable sugars that yeast convert into CO₂, naturally carbonating your brew.
Beyond priming, dextrose can also be used to subtly adjust a beer’s body and finish. Adding it to your wort increases fermentable sugars without affecting flavor, resulting in a drier, crisper beer.
For reference, approximately 3.4 ounces of corn sugar per gallon will increase alcohol content (ABV) by 1%.
Ideal for priming, boosting gravity, or fine-tuning your final product, dextrose is an essential addition to any homebrewer’s toolkit!
